WWII again. One can never learn too much about The Holocaust. The first story line starts in a Polish village near Auschwitz-Birkenau. Alina and Tomacz have loved each other for years but he leaves for medical school and disappears. She ends up in a Russian refugee camp and is trying to get to the USA. The second story line is modern day and Babcia wants her granddaughter to find Tomacz. Alice really doesn't want to make the trip because her life is a mess. This is a good read if you like WWII books. Rimmer develops interesting characters. I look forward to more of her books.
