Nora is summoned back to her small Mojave desert town after her father is killed by a hit and run driver. Being Muslim-American, the family had been ostracized since 9/11. Her father poured his heart and soul into his little diner and tried to become a part of the community. His wife never forgave him for leaving Morocco. Several people tell the story of the hit and run. The witness who is an illegal immigrant is afraid to step up and the white family who runs the bowling alley was always competing for parking spaces. Bring in the Black detective with problems of her own and we have a full gamut of interesting characters to tell the story of modern-day America.
