Burial Rites is based on the true story of a woman beheaded for murder in Northern Iceland during the 1800s. Very obscure, I know. She is held for the winter prior to her execution at a farm, guarded by the farmer's wife and daughters and confessing to a young priest. A creepy, eerie, fascinating story of survival, love, and a culture you might not ever know anything about.
It's been a book that I think of often and recommend whenever I can. Check it out on Bookshop.
